If you cheated on your man, would he take you back?

Relationships are never what they seem, point blank. Too many Mind Games are being played. How many people you know front like everything is sweet, knowing it’s drag down, kick fights between them? What about financial troubles?
Look at Juanita Bynum and Bishop Weeks, who would’ve known? Look at Shaq and his lovely wife, Shaunie. Was it right for her to hide money? Or, did she really hide it? What woman you know wouldn’t invest with money that’s invested in her, come on now. Women stand up and be truthful. You would’ve done it, wouldn’t you?
I could go on and on. I’m not saying this to put them on blast because truly I hope God intervenes in both situations.
Was Serenity all that bad to hope for more in her man? Shouldn’t he have held her family down? It wasn’t her fault that he went to jail. So, why were the consequences weighed heavy on her when she cheated on him, and he took her back? He cheated on her several times before, you know.
With that, I pose this question to you, if you cheated on your man, would he take you back?
If you haven’t already, go out and cop Mind Games. It’s the ultimate battle between love and betrayal. Order it from online, http://www.amazon.com/Mind-Games-KaShamba-Williams/dp/0977650723/ref=pd_bbs_3/105-8745140-8714835?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1189592444&sr=8-3. Or, from your local bookstore!
If you’ve read it, post a review on Amazon.com!

Thug's Passion Thug’s Passion by Tracy Gray Tracy Gray

Thug’s Passion is your debut novel, what or who inspired you to write Thug’s Passion?

·         I was inspired to write Thug’s Passion, by a thought. One day I thought to myself, “what if I were to write a book about a young lady who has seen too much and been through too much and never wants to date another thug in her life?” I started thinking about how as soon as you say you want to give up something, temptation for that very thing keeps presenting itself. The story line grew from there. Passion was the first character conceived, then Solomon. Jinx came later.

If we were to compare your novel to others, what novel(s) would that be? Or, does your book stand alone?

·         I tried to be as original as possible with Thug’s Passion. I don’t think it can be compared to any novel out there.

Does your novel story line come from any personal experiences or from those closely related to you?

·         The story line doesn’t necessarily come from my life experiences, but some of the scenes, some conversations, some situations in the book are definitely true to my life, and the lives of others.

What was your most difficult challenge in penning Thug’s Passion?

·         The most difficult challenge for me with Thug’s Passion was staying true to my original vision, and making the story more “urban romance”, than “street lit”. The temptation to make the story more gritty, and thugged out was always presenting itself. I had to keep reminding myself that this was Passion’s opportunity to tell her story. To tell things the way she saw them, and Passion was basically a sheltered and naive person. All of the men in her life, not just Jinx, felt a real need to always protect her. So, any scenes with Solomon doing what hustlers do were intentionally left off the pages.

What was your profession prior to becoming an author?

·         I was a professional student. I had been in school FOREVER, studying to become an “English as a second language” teacher. Oh yeah, I was a domestic engineer (housewife) for three years.

Do you see this as a new career, or is this a novel you just wanted to share with the world?

·         I definitely want to write as career. It’s like breathing for me. I can’t stand not being able to write. Sometimes late at night, when I should be sleeping, I’m contemplating getting up and jumping on the computer just to finish the chapter. It’s an obsession. I HAVE to write.

What do you believe will attract the readers to Thug’s Passion?

·         The fact that all women have loved somebody they never wanted to love. And it always blows up in our faces. And we’re always pissed at ourselves, because we knew we should’ve left dude where he was standing in the first place.

·         No seriously, I hope what attracts people is Passion’s relationship with the other characters in the book. Passion is very real to me, and I hope she’s real to the readers.

What can readers look for in the future from Tracy Gray?

·         Original story lines. Sexy and appealing male characters. Female characters that readers can really relate to. Books. More and more books. I’m like a thug about writing…”Can’t stop! Won’t stop!”

PTE is a rising publishing company, headlined by KaShamba Williams, do you feel you made the best decision by joining Precioustymes Entertainment? What other companies did you submit Thug’s Passion, too?

·         I’m happy at Precioustymes Entertainment. I felt then and still feel that I was led to the company by the Lord. I never had a preference about where God placed me, I just wanted Him to place me where He wanted me to be. He placed me at Precioustymes.

·         I only submitted to three companies in total. One I forget the name of, but I recently read a very unflattering article about that company and thanked God that He, in His all-knowingness didn’t allow them to accept my manuscript. I submitted to Triple Crown Productions, but was basically told that Thug’s Passion was not “urban/Hip Hop lit”, and therefore was not what they were looking for.

Mind Games

Mind Games  KaSh

Mind Games by KaShamba Williams

Imagine being 25 year old Serenity Wells. She’s trying to raise two children while living in the basement of her mother’s house with her ‘has-been’ husband Kyron, who’s finally home from a 3-year prison bid.

When it comes to beauty Serenity ups pageant standards. Ironically, when it comes to insecurity and lack of trust, Kyron tops them all.

Their lives wouldn’t be that bad if Serenity hadn’t cheated on him, and to make matters worse, had a baby on him!

Serenity’s tired and so is Kyron of trying to make this young marriage work. However, when both of them invite extra curricular activities in, the love returns. Or, does it?

Will love overrule betrayal, or have they been playing Mind Games with each other?

?????’s

KaShamba what would make you pen a story such as this?

I am too familiar with disastrous young marriages. I was in one at an early age. Truly, not ready for the commitment. I always say to young couples, “Don’t do it, if you’re not ready! Because you go against God when you do.”

So, you’re saying a young marriage can’t survive?

I’m not saying that at all. I’m saying if you know you still have some play in you, don’t bring someone else in your mess.

Trust is a major issue in relationships, especially when a man is incarcerated. You touched on that in this novel. Do you really think a man would take a woman back after she cheated on him and had a baby on him? That’s stretching it, ain’t it?

Not if love is involved. ‘Cause ultimately, love is what will bring them back together. Look at it this way, over 2 million African-American men are in prison or in some type of institution. They can’t do anything but depend on others while down. Especially, if it’s a female holding them down. Even if she’s done him wrong but looks out, he won’t forget that. That may earn her a session or two… maybe even marriage, who knows… there is hope. Serenity got her man back. I’m not saying they didn’t have their set of problems, because they did. The question is can a marriage overcome infidelity while dealing with trust issues?

Don’t you think it’s difficult enough for couples to go through problems? Do you really think people will openly talk about this issue?

I’ve written the book so that couples can talk amongst each other. I’ve given them an avenue of discussion. They don’t have to air out their differences with the public.

What about single people, is this a book they can enjoy and learn from?

Ofcourse. It forewarns them about issues young married couples face. Especially, if they are considering marriage in the near future.

The critics are saying Mind Games is your most highly anticipated novel, do you feel any pressure about this release? Especially, releasing it independently?

No. It’s gonna do, what it’s gonna do. I’ve been consistent in this lit game with every novel. I’ve sold tons of books without inflating numbers and I come with new creative storylines. I’m one of the best in the industry and I’m still humble about it. I’ve worked with the best in Urban Lit. And, I’m still on my grind - up and personal with the readers. It’s PTE’s time to shine. It never stops. It’s a reason they call me Ka$h. What more can you ask for? I’m committed to this.

Rising Star Miss Brittney Davis Brittney Davis

In my 20 years of life I’ve been through my share of trials and tribulations. Some self inflicted, other’s not. Taking my life experiences and placing them in stories with different characters similar to me, and the people around me, is my therapy. Every tale I weave together has truth and harsh reality incorporated. I graduated from Robert Morris College with a degree in Business Administration and a concentration in Paralegal studies. Like my first novel In My Peace I Trust I too am a young black female coming from anything but an ideal situation. My environment compelled me to come up with creative ways to express myself. After reading Iceberg Slim’s Novel Trick Baby, I was determined to break into the world of Street Lit. One of my goals is to clear up the somewhat distorted image of street fiction. I want readers to know that street fiction is entertaining but at the same time, teaching lessons about consequences to bad decisions. A lot of urban scribes have already experienced all facets of “the life” and are warning their young readers to steer clear of the seemingly glamorous game. I am definitely not in this to glamorize street life.

Age: 21

Zodiac sign: Aqua Girl!

Single, in a relationship, or trapped (married)? Single State you currently reside: Illinois Which would you prefer?

Omarion or Marques Houston? Marques Houston

Usher or Young Lloyd? Definitely Young Lloyd

Lil’ Wayne or Baby? Lil Wayne

Allen Iverson or Carmello Anthony? Allen Iverson

Camron or Juelz Santana? Juelz Santana

Idris Elba (Stringer Bell) or Lorenz Tate? OMG, Idris Elba is so sexy

R&B or Hip Hop? Gotta go with Hip Hop, it’s a movement

Stripping or Line dancing? Stripping. LOL!

NBA or NFL? NBA

Who’s currently rotating in your CD player? The Best of Sade

Miss Brittney for a 21 year old you have the wisdom of someone in his or her very late 20’s. What would you say contributes to that? I would have to say my many life experiences. There were times in my childhood when I had to take care of myself, and hustle to survive. That lifestyle forces you to grow up fast. What most people don’t learn until their early 20’s I knew in my mid-to late teens. One thing I learned growing up is that no one can take care of you like you can take care of yourself.

If someone were to introduce you to a crowd of people, what would they say about you? They would probably say that I’m a cool/crazy chic. I’m like a chameleon. I can adapt to any situation. I also enjoy being around different types of people.

In you debut novel, In My Peace I Trust, the main character Shantae deals with a great deal of past hurts. Is Shantae in any way a replica of what’s happening in other females lives? What are some of the struggles you think young ladies face today?  Shantae’s situation is definitely a carbon copy of what goes on in the lives of many young black females. Young ladies face so many struggles today. A lot of girls are victims of broken homes and feel forced to result to desperate measures for survival. We live in a misogynic world and men capitalize off the misfortunes of young women. That alone opens the floodgates to all types of negative things. For this to change there has to be a permanent repair in the break down of the African American family.

In My Peace I Trust is your induction to the Street/Urban Lit world, what are your expectations for your novel? Do you think you will blend in well with the other established authors? Does that even matter to you? Well, my expectations for my debut novel are high. I worked very hard on this project. This may sound cliché but this is my blood, sweat, and most definitely tears. I incorporated a lot of my own life experiences into the lives of the characters in my book. Writing this book was therapy for my soul. I had been holding onto alot of pain and getting the words out of my mind and onto paper transformed me in so many positive ways. I have messages throughout In My Peace I Trust that I hope will strike a cord with everyone that reads it. I discuss the absence of unity among black women and the black community as a whole, molestation, drug abuse, and the seemingly glamorous perks of fast money in the game. I pray that someone will read my book and find resolve from it. Hopefully, to let them know they’re not alone. Blending is not a goal of mine, I want to stand out as much as possible and become a contender among the established authors in Urban Lit. I want to attract people from all walks of life to street fiction, so some deserving authors can make the New York Times Best Seller list. I would love to see Urban scribes discussing their latest novel with Oprah, Street Fiction doesn’t get half the notoriety it deserves, and that’s what I hope In My Peace I Trust does.

It’s also ironic that you question whether or not I will blend in with other established authors because recently I was reading a book and found out that a passage and a scene of my book was dubbed by this established author. I was instantly offended because this same author has a publishing company that I submitted to and was rejected! Now I know why I was rejected because that individual wanted to use a part of my story. Yes, it was flattering that she enjoyed my material enough to bite it, but it is wrong for her to do so! I’m a first time author, who do you think they will believe plagiarized, me or her? Exactly my point however, I have documentation to prove that I am the original scribe of the line and scene that she plagiarized. Shame on her to do this! So to answer your question, Hell yeah I feel like I will be able to blend even though it’s not my goal… that individual already let me know my novel can stand up with the best.

What can we look forward from you? What’s next on Miss Brittney’s agenda? Well, for the most part lots of promotion for In My Peace I Trust. Your first book is like your baby and I want to raise it right. I have two other books in the works, an autobiography about my life, and one about a young hustler named Brooklyn coming up in New York during the crack epidemic in the late 80’s. I also will be attending DePaul University in Sept. 07 to receive my MBA.

Get Ya’ Doe Up with G. Rell

 G. Rell     Get Ya’ Doe Up with G. Rell     Allegheny Doe Boy

A Philadelphia native cleverly crafted his debut novel titled, Allegheny Doe Boy. An intriguing masterpiece loosely based on a true story is sure to make the females fall in love with him and make the men try to follow in his path.

Age:  26

Zodiac sign: Cancer

Martial status:  Single

Where do you currently reside? Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Which would you prefer?
Zoe Saldana or Meagan Good? Both! At the same time (if they let me).

Beyonce or Kelly Rowland? Beyonce. But Kelly can get it too.

Nia Long or Sanaa Lathan? Sanaa Lathan Gabrielle Union or Vivica Fox? Gabrielle Union

J-Lo or Eva Mendez? Eva Mendez
Mud Wrestlers or female boxers? Neither really, but if I have to choose I’d go with female boxers because of the beautiful Laila Ali.

Playboy or King Magazine? King all the way!

NBA or NFL? I have to support hometown - Sixers and the Eagles. I love them equally.

NHL or Boxing? Boxing, without question.

What is your ideal woman like? She must be loyal. That’s very important in any relationship. She also has to be intelligent, sexy, fun to be with, a beautiful person (both inside and out) and she must have dreams and aspirations along with the motivation to accomplish her goals.

Who do you consider attractive/sexy? Alicia Keys, Jada Pinkett and Eve (the rapper/actress). I think all three women are very attractive (both mentally and physically).

Complete this statement. You would rather_____, than ____? I would rather be an average person financially who makes a difference in people’s lives, than have all the money in the world, and never do anything good with it. What do you enjoy in your pass time?
I enjoy working out, traveling, and doing new things. I’m a very spontaneous person so I’ll try “ALMOST” anything once.

What prompted you to pen your debut novel Allegheny Doe Boy? I felt that I had an interesting story to tell. I knew that if readers comprehend it the right way (which I’m sure they will) they’d get a valuable message from the story. I felt that I had an interesting story to tell. I knew that if readers comprehend it the right way (which I’m sure they will) they’d get a valuable message from the story.Without incriminating yourself (since we heard this book is somewhat written from experience) what character are you most like? I took some of my experiences, a lot of my feelings and personality and used them to create the main character, Ty.

So, Ty is the character that is most like me.I felt that I had an interesting story to tell. I knew that if readers comprehend it the right way (which I’m sure they will) they’d get a valuable message from the story.

You live in the City of Brotherly Love, where currently violence is increasing everyday and is quickly becoming #1 on the list for most homocides. What do you feel is the root of the problem in the inner city? And do you plan on, or are you actively helping to keep the peace in your city? Without going too in depth, I’ll just say the overall problem is money, or the lack of it. There’s a lot of opportunity in Philly however, a large percentage of the city’s population comes from generations of poverty and are unfortunately unaware of the opportunities that are available or lacks what it takes to grab those opportunities. So we often feel that we have no choice but to resort to the streets, which eventually leads to more violence. And to answer the second part of your question, I plan on doing my part in keeping the peace simply by giving back to the streets that bred me. With the start of my business endeavors I’m hiring people who would otherwise have problems finding employment. I will also attend high school Career Days each year with hopes of educating kids about entrepreneurship. As well as, help them find positive ways to pursue their dreams. In reality, all of these kids aren’t going to college, and all of them aren’t going to easily find jobs after they graduate. Then, alot of kids these days don’t feel a traditional 9-5 is for them. I’m going to let them know that there is an alternative other than selling drugs and committing illegal crimes. Hopefully, that will help in decreasing the violence that plagues Philly’s streets.

As a Black man in America, what do you feel are the strengths and weaknesses of our Black men? I feel that one of our many strengths are the fact that we’re such trend setters and have the ability to make people embrace us no matter what situation we come from. As soon as the reins were loosened on our people and we gained a little bit of exposure, the whole world fell in love with our culture. Today you see all different types of people from all walks of life trying to imitate our styles, whether it’s by the way we dress, the slang that some of us use, or the music that we create. We’ve come a long way as a people over the last 40 years. Of course that is mostly due to the sacrifices that were made by great heroes such as Malcolm X, Dr. King and many others, but on a more recent note we have used our talents in sports, music, and other art forms to help break color barriers. Now, we are accepted not only by mainstream America but internationally. It’s a wonderful thing. I feel that one of our greatest weaknesses is too many of us have self-defeating attitudes which has hindered us from progressing economically and politically at the same rate that we’ve progressed socially. Through sports, music, movies and novels we entertain the world but we have to realize that we don’t have to settle for simply entertaining the world. We can also play a bigger part in running the world. A prime example is Politics. We just have to stop thinking that certain things are out of our reach and begin to set higher standards for ourselves and start thinking outside of the box, and know that there is no limit to the things we can accomplish as long as we properly apply ourselves and stay focused on our goals.

What advice would you give a youngin’ under your wing that’s caught up like your main character Ty in you book? I would school him to every aspect of the game and make sure he has a clear understanding of everything he’s involved in and all the consequences that come along with it. I would also inform him of other options he has as an alternative to selling drugs. There’s always an alternative. You just have to love yourself enough to take it.

What’s next for G. Rell? Everything! I’m currently in the process of starting my publishing company, Green Day Publishing. I’m launching my company with the release of my newest novel, Brotherly Love. I’m also in the process of my party, concert and promotion company, Doe Boy Entertainment. Most of my events will be held in Philly, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh, PA. In 2007, you can also look for the hot G. Rell mix tapes and Doe Holder mix tapes. The mix tapes will also launch my record label Doe Holder Records and introduce my artist and myself (as a rapper) to the world. Last but not least, I’m trying to do the Hollywood thing and have every novel that I publish as well as authors under my publishing company, get turned into motion pictures starting with my debut novel, Allegheny Doe Boy, which is in stores now, and available on line at www.precioustymes.com.

Is modeling a pass-time for you or are you seriously considering a modeling career outside of your author career?  I’d prefer something in fashion, like fashion stylist or design.

Your debut novel Stiletto 101: Don’t Let the Stilettos Fool You was all of that dealing with dorm drama and college Sororities. Was it tough trying to come up with another creative storyline? Not really, I’ve always had a creative tic, although, it was a little harder finishing Vendetta up.

Many authors get caught up in the same storyline. Vendetta: Diary of a Kingpin’s Daughter is releasing in 2007 what can we expect differently from you in this novel? This novel shows more of my creative thinking, and my progress as a writer, with Stiletto it’s so close to the truth that the story line came so natural. Are there any similarities with Stiletto 101 and Vendetta? Not at all. This is the hottest, most entertaining and educational book on the market right now. It is erotic with eroticism in it. Of course, it is purely ‘fictional’. You couldn’t have all that excitement in ‘real life’ no real names called. This story is sold and told. 100% summer, winter, fall, and spring reading, a must read for everyone, from junior high to high school to college/university, and graduate school, and various schools of life, street life included.

What is your idea woman like? She’s the woman who knows how to be a friend to her man. She allows her man to be a man, and not try to change him into a woman. She can accept the truth, even if it’s not the truth she wants to hear, or if it’s a lie to protect her feelings.

Who do you consider attractive/sexy? On physical appearance alone, I’d have to say Stacy Dash. Even her scowl is sexy. You would rather ____, than what? Listen, than speak, I was taught you can’t learn anything running your mouth.

What do you enjoy in your pass-time? I enjoy spending time with my children. I enjoy playing chess and watching old movies from the 70’s and 80’s.

Out of all the characters in your debut novel Hittin’ Numbers, which one of the characters can you mostly relate to and why? I think Don Q., because I’ve always been the voice of reason amongst my friends growing up in Brooklyn. Always trying to keep them out of trouble, but usually falling right into trouble with them.

If you can sum up in one word to describe the friendship in Hittin’ Numbers what word would that be? Tribe. Webster defines tribe as: a social group compromising numerous families, clans, or generations. In the hood we use to say ‘my brother from another mother’. That’s family without the bloodline.

I noticed in Hittin’ Numbers unlike most books, you touched on college friendship and positive male characters. Even though the main characters Uncle sold drugs, most of the men held strong values. They even learned each other’s weaknesses. I’ll even go on to say that they built each other up during their time of weaknesses. Is that important in friendship? Do you think friendships are built like that today? Is their still genuine friendship? Definitely. Friends pull each other up, pull each other down, or cause each other to become stagnated. Its important to have friends that keep you morally grounded, but encourage you to chase your dreams, push you towards elevation and positive growth. Yes, there’s still genuine friendship out there, but you have to be capable of providing genuine friendship in order to receive it.

Although, the choices that some of the characters made in Hittin’ Numbers were very impulsive, what are your alternatives for males that stray in a negative way? Hip-Hop has opened the world of entrepreneurship to the hood in a major way. The hood is overflowing with opportunities for anyone who wants to hustle. If you can stand on a corner slinging drugs in rain, sleet and snow; ducking cops and shots, than you can stand on that same corner selling CD’s, DVD’s, Books, Clothes, etc. A hustler can hustle anything, why limit yourself to a hustle that jeopardizes your life?

Hittin’ Numbers was definitely entertaining and helpful for both male and females in preparation to advance in life. It was actually life changing for a few male readers. How has writing this novel changed your life? Writing this novel gave me the opportunity to tap into a God-given talent. I wasn’t aware that I possessed.

The female characters in Hittin’ Numbers were just as colorful and full of life as were the Tree Top Crew. How important is it for males to bond with females platonically? Is it possible for females/males to have a platonic relationship without having at least one sexual encounter? I think it’s essential to bond platonically. Male and female friends provide each other with a cleaner outlook of the opposite sex. Also, each provided different elements of friendship. The benefits of male and female friendships are very different. Yes, it’s possible to be friends without a sexual encounter; even likely, but your platonic friend’s friends are fair game.

Your next book to release is No Good Dirty Dawg. The title says it all. Without giving away the goods, what can we expect differently from your main character Ja’ell than any other no good low down man? In my next book, Ja’ell didn’t start off as a No Good Dirty Dawg; he was driven into it. On the flipside of the coin, he isn’t necessarily the No Good Dirty Dawg. The no good dirty dog could be a she, depending on the reader’s perception. Without giving away too much, this book will definitely add fuel to the fire of war of the sexes. Who’s right, who’s wrong? Is she conniving or is he a Dawg? You’ll have to judge for yourself.

Hittin’ Numbers Hits Hard

Reviewer: Hotchklate “Coast2CoastReaders” (Bronx, N.Y.) - See all my reviews

Unique J. Shannon pens a novel about five college friends (Tre-Von, Don-Q, Bezo, Will & Sparks) who are living it up at Howard University. The guys who all meet on campus have formed The Tree Top Crew and have plans upon becoming business partners upon their graduations. A financial set back threatens Will’s education and the guys scheme up a way to come up with Will’s tuition money.

Tre-Von’s Uncle Smooth has Brooklyn’s Pink Houses on lock so Tre-Von naturally turns to him in his crew’s time of need. Uncle Smooth comes up with an easy way for the Tree Top Crew to come up quick. But as with all things easily attained they have a way of disappearing just as quickly. But Tree Top came off so smoothly the first time that they have no qualms about going at it again even without Uncle Smooth’s assistance.

However the streets of N.Y. teaches the Tree Top Crew an invaluable lesson that no college professor could. Life lessons and the consequences of hasty decision making ensures that readers will come away with a newfound respect for Mr. Shannon as he shows that even college educated males can fall victim to the lure of the streets.
